My second day exploring Donauinsel was much, much colder than my first walk. I took a suburban train to Langenzersdorf Bahnhof to start my journey at the north end of the island, where you’ll find the first set of three floodgates (Einlaufbauwerk Langenzersdorf) that can be opened if there is a risk of flooding from the Danube River. It feels quite a remote spot looking downstream to see the city skyline in the distance. The day I visited there were just a few cyclist and one person out dog-walking.
